Montreal Crime and Home Invasions Can Be Avoided

Montreal Crime has dropped in the past few years, but that does not mean you should not protect yourself against robbery and theft.

In December of 2011, former world poker champion Jonathan Duhamel, opened his door to two men who were posing as couriers. What followed was a pre-Christmas invasion that almost ended his life.

Duhamel woke up to the doorbell, peered through the peephole and immediately opened it as he was expecting gifts for Christmas that he had ordered for his friends and family. What happened next could have been avoided.

When Duhamel opened his door, the man forced his way inside with a second robber right behind him. The intruders kicked him in the head, and even though he tried to fight back, kept on punching. Duhamel said they beat him up just good enough to control him. They threatened his life and the lives of his parents. He finally gave into their demands and opened his personal safe. After they stuffed the money into a backpack, they continued to beat him before fleeing the scene.

These days you can protect yourself against intruders if you have your home secured with a home monitoring system, especially if you have a wireless keychain remote. Good home security companies will give you a device that allows you to call for help anywhere in your home, inside or out.

Any home or office can be robbed, especially during the holidays. People are more apt to open doors to complete strangers.

Four intruders broke into a Montreal home, raped a female visitor, and beat the homeowners before ransacking the house. These same invaders are suspecting of invading five other homes in the same area. One of the other invasions involved two elderly couples who were gagged and bound.

Predators and home invaders usually wear disguises. They will use props to appear harmless.
